Introducing Kate Sazon, a fourth-year medical student at Albany Medical College who will continue her training there as a resident. She is originally from the Capital Region who joined the NYSRS to get involved in radiology across the state. Outside of medicine, She loves traveling, reading, and planning creative events (I may or may not secretly love a good theme).
1. Why you decided to go into radiology
I was drawn to radiology because of the detective part of imaging. I loved putting together subtle findings to help guide patient care. In addition, every radiologist at every stage of their career has been incredibly nice and inviting, which further drove my interest.
2. Favorite moment/experience as part of the NYSRS
My favorite NYSRS experience was definitely the Spring All Member Meeting in NYC. It was great connecting with students, residents and attending across the state. It’s been super motivating and inspiring around people who are passionate about radiology.
3. Advice for medical students interested in radiology
Get early exposure! Attend interest group events, shadow, and don’t be afraid to ask radiologists about their day-to-day life. Most importantly, find mentors you genuinely connect with.
4. Fun fact about you!
I love traveling and try to plan at least one new adventure every year. I’m always down to explore a new city, try a random local coffee shop, and over-research the best hidden food spots.
