We are the New York State Radiological Society
Our History
The New York State Radiological Society, Inc (NYSRS) is the New York State Chapter of the American College of Radiology. It was founded in 1953 as the “Radiological Society of the State of New York”. It was originally founded when “a group of x-ray physicians felt the need of a state-wide organization to strengthen their professional and ethical status”. It has evolved into a statewide organization of over 1,200 members.
According to our By-Laws, the purposes of this Society shall be those of the American College of Radiology:
(1) to advance the science of radiology, and to improve radiologic services to the patient;
(2) to study the socioeconomic aspects of the practice of radiology;
(3) to encourage improved and continuing education for radiologists and allied professional fields; and
(4) to establish and maintain high medical and ethical standards in the practice of radiology and allied professional fields.

NYSRS 2022 - 2023 Goals
To continue building on the history of meaningful achievements of previous years, our executive committee recommends Board adoption of the following priority goals of the society for 2022-2023
- Improve the value and impact of our meetings. Create a task force to motivate in-person attendance at meetings, while maintaining the expanded reach afforded by hybrid attendance
- Adapt the format of all member meetings, incorporating generative discussion in each meeting
- Clarify the “Value Proposition” for joining NYSRS, build this into all branding efforts, and disseminate it through creative means – especially to reach those who are either not members of NYSRS or who are not active in the society
- Increase the utilization and effectiveness of the Executive Committee
- Create a multi-faceted approach to interact more frequently with members, beginning with the new website and under the leadership of the IT/Social Media/Communication teams
- Continue advocacy for the professions/subspecialties that comprise our Society and the patients we serve
- Promote diversity, equity and inclusion and participation at all levels of the Society, using personal invitation and mentorship to those not currently engaged
- Maintain financial strength of the Society
- Create an ongoing effort to frequently communicate and increase collaboration with other state chapters
- Recognize the personal satisfaction, camaraderie and joy that can result from working together towards a common goal
