Introducing Dr. Austin Young, MD. He was born and raised in Suffolk County, and stayed for medical school at the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University. He is currently at Northwell’s Mather Hospital for his intern year and will continue his radiology training at Northwell NS-LIJ.
1. Why Radiology?
I went into radiology because I have always liked anatomy, technology, and solving puzzles. I also think pictures are better than words!
2. Favorite Moment/Experience with NYSRS
My favorite part of NYSRS is the people. Working with individuals like Dr. Hentel and Dr. Colucci has been incredible, which has blossomed into lifelong connections and mentorship that extends far beyond the Society.
3. Plans for the Future
I’m still exploring subspecialty paths for fellowship in the future, but some areas that interest me include Interventional Radiology, MSK, and Body. I’m also interested in how AI will continue to change and shape radiology, and hope to be at the forefront of that intersection.
4. Advice for medical students interested in radiology
Ask questions – even the ones you think might sound basic. Get involved, engage your curiosity, and push yourself into spaces that feel uncomfortable. That’s where growth happens. And when you find mentors who invest in you, hold onto those relationships – they’ll influence your career later in ways you can’t yet see.
