Introducing Jin Ho Yoon, MD the President of the NYSRS Resident and Fellow Committee and a R3 at Columbia.
1. Why Radiology?
I was initially drawn to Radiology through AI research during medical school. Before that, I didn’t even know Radiology was a residency I could pursue! Once I discovered it, everything clicked. Each scan felt like a medical puzzle, and I loved the mix of problem‑solving, pattern recognition, and clinical impact. I also found it incredibly meaningful to support both patients and referring clinicians through thoughtful diagnostic interpretation. And honestly, the people sealed the deal. Every radiologist I met was kind, intelligent, and deeply committed to excellent patient care.
2. Favorite Moment/Experience with NYSRS
One of my favorite experiences was traveling to Washington, D.C. during my R1 year for the ACR Annual Meeting. Joining radiologists from across the country to meet with our Senators and Representatives was inspiring. Being able to share our perspective and advocate for legislation that improves patient care and strengthens our field was an unforgettable experience.
3. Plans for the Future
I plan to pursue a fellowship in musculoskeletal imaging. I’m still in the middle of interviews, so we will see where I end up in a few months!
4. Advice for medical students interested in radiology
My advice for medical students is to get involved with your Radiology Department as much as possible. It doesn’t have to be research. You can get involved with lectures (like helping set up medical student lecture series), creating educational exhibits, or even shadowing for a few hours. You’ll quickly get a sense of whether Radiology is the right fit for you, and casual conversations about interesting cases might turn into small projects or learning opportunities.
5. Fun fact about you!
I used to breakdance! I’ve stopped due to injuries, but occasionally, I will still perform at friends’ weddings.
